***** “THANKS very much for a very entertaining evening!”
"This fantastic performance really captures the spirit and morals of Dickens' book. The values of looking after the needy and vulnerable are just as relevant today as they were in 1843 and Lantern Light's production captivated our students' hearts and minds. The production is true to the book and makes clever use of an engaging narrator to thread the narrative together. The quality of the acting was superb and simply but effectively put together. Thank you for putting on this show!"
Ruth Nilsson, Davison CE High School for Girls "Scrooge was superb!"
"Very entertaining and true to the book." "Loved it! I would definitely watch it again if given the chance." "The actors and narrator made me feel really involved in the story." Year 10 Student comments |
"A ten out of ten show!"
Molly Kennedy, Hotwalls Studios "A satisfying and faithful new adaptation!... Lantern Light's USP is the ability to fit venue and show, and St Nicholas' Church, probably Brighton's oldest building, is a terrific venue. Eerie sound and lighting design by Dan Skelt highlight rood screen, dais, long aisles and real candlelight, with London fog drifting about the ivy-wreathed stone pillars creating atmosphere, visuals and mood which a theatre just can't offer."
Phillippa Hammond, Sussex Playwrights "The wonderful Lantern Light production of A Christmas Carol at the Round Tower ... perfect pre-Christmas piece of theatre"

Sophie graduated from Drama Studio London and since graduating has toured with numerous productions both in the UK and internationally, as well as film, TV and radio work. Most recently she played the lead in Silent Dove’s production of ‘Lotty’, a film exploring mental health issues; Beryl Stapleton in Lantern Light’s ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’; Lady Capulet in ‘Romeo & Juliet’; Helen Stoner in ‘The Adventure of the Speckled Band’ and Kathleen/Goody in ‘The Haunted Crossroads.’ She is looking forward to exploring all of these different wise, strong female characters – all of whom seem to know and understand Scrooge better than he knows himself.

Kerren trained at the London Repertory Company Academy where she was told she was a “natural Director!” She took them at their word and has since become an Artistic Associate with Lantern Light with whom she directed Hansel and Gretel, as well as an Associate Director with Brighton Shakespeare Company on productions: The Merchant of Venice, The Comedy of Errors, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing and The Merry Wives of Windsor. Other directing credits include topical comedy show The Treason Show and new comedy ‘Would Like to Meet’. She has a love of classics as well as new writing and is always interested in pulling out for the audience why we should still pay attention to these stories and what they have to say about how we live now. She is excited to explore the psychological drama behind this classic ghost story, the fun of a festive show in addition to highlighting the parallels between Dickensian society and ours.

ADAPTATION - Written by Sophie Flack
This is Sophie's fifth Victorian adaptation. She studied English Literature at the University of Bristol and then was given a place on Euroscript's Screenwriting Summer Bootcamp. She was commissioned for the last two years in a row by the Conan Doyle Collection to write two new stage plays and a radio play based on themes from the archive and the Sherlock Holmes stories themselves - ‘Sherlock’s Poisons’, an adult drama exploring the use of drugs and poisons in the Sherlock Holmes stories; ‘The Adventures of Conan Doyle’ a children’s story-telling show based on the travels of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and a brand new adaptation of ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’.
Other of her works have been produced by See You Next Tuesday at The New Players Theatre, Lost Theatre, ScriptReadEast at Rich Mix and Lantern Light. She is currently working on two feature scripts - a female buddy comedy and a monster movie.
